ABOUT PASHMINA- OUR FLAGSHIP BUSINESS
Crafts and Charm proudly introduces the world to the artistry of Pashmina, renowned as the pinnacle of craftsmanship globally. Pashmina is sourced from the exotic species of Goat, exclusively at a staggering 15,000 feet above sea level in Kashmir. This rarity and unique origin elevate the status of Pashmina, making it revered and sought after worldwide. Its magical allure and traditional grace have captivated kings, royals, and individuals across the globe. It is for this very reason that we have chosen to showcase the timeless elegance and regal essence of this centuries-old art to the world.
Why is Pashmina so exquisite?
The quality of Pashmina is determined by several key factors, including its fineness, fiber length, and color.
Raw Pashmina comes in various natural colors, with white being the most highly regarded, followed by shades of brown and grey.
The fineness of Pashmina is measured by the diameter of its fibers, which is expressed in microns, equivalent to 1/1000th of a millimetre. Pashmina sourced from goats typically falls within the range of 13 to 19 microns. To be suitable for hand weaving, Pashmina fibers should have a length exceeding 5 centimetres. The goats living at higher altitudes tend to produce longer Pashmina fibers.
What does a hand-woven Pashmina fabric feel like?
An authentically handcrafted Pashmina imparts the sensation of enveloping oneself in the purest, billowy clouds. Its gentle caress, soft texture, and exceptional warmth cradle you in comfort. Pashmina possesses a subtly lustrous sheen attributed to its intricate twill tapestry weaving, which captures and reflects delicate hints of light, bestowing upon it an opulent allure. When a handcrafted Pashmina shawl undergoes the artistry of Kashmiri embroideries, it not only looks but also exudes an even more majestic and regal presence.
CARING FOR COMMUNITIES AND ENVIRNOMENT
Produced with a strong commitment to ethical practices and sustainability, Crafts and Charm products are sourced responsibly. Our mission is to create a platform for artisans to showcase their creativity and talents. We exclusively collaborate with artisans to work in house under our banner, ensuring that artisans are justly compensated for their expertise and recognized for their creative abilities. We have dedicated years to identifying the most exceptional independent artisans across various locations, taking the time to understand each artisan's unique skills and passion.
Our core values prioritize the planet, people, and animals over profits, and we are deeply committed to sourcing materials sustainably and ethically. Crafts and Charm pashmina comes from the species of goats in the high plateaus of the Himalayas, where these goats roam freely. We partner with small suppliers who are devoted to ensuring the goats live cruelty-free lives, treating them with respect and collecting their cashmere wool through gentle hand-combing at the appropriate time of year.
Additionally, we prioritize the use of azo-free or plant-based dyes whenever possible. Sourcing materials sustainably and upholding ethical labor practices may come at a higher cost, but as stewards of the Earth, we take pride in rekindling an appreciation for nature's finest and wholeheartedly embrace our responsibility towards the environment and the empowerment of people.
This commitment extends to our Reviving Origins initiative, specifically crafted to rejuvenate diminishing production in regions that have faced challenges such as social unrest, conflicts, or natural disasters.
